The Monastery of San Jerónimo de la Murtra is an ancient cenobium of the Jerónimos Order built in Gothic style in the early 15th century. It is situated in the natural surroundings of the Sierra de la Marina, in the municipality of Badalona in the province of Barcelona.
The first cenobium was founded in 1413 near San Pedro de Ribas, in the Catalan comarca of Garraf, in the same province of Barcelona, and was moved three years later, in 1416, by the Barcelona merchant Bertran Nicolau, who arranged for its rebuilding on the site of the old rural house of La Murtra, between Badalona and Santa Coloma de Gramanet. From this original house were built the church, the cells, the cloister, the refectory, the kitchen, and other monastic dependencies.
