The Castle of Mataplana is a castle in the municipality of Gombrèn declared a cultural asset of national interest. The site is an archaeological excavation that has been ongoing since 1986, consisting of a castle from the 12th and 13th centuries and an abandoned neighborhood or village.
In the Vall de l'Espluga, on the northwestern side of Gombrèn, significant remains of the wall of the ancient castle remain, near the chapel of Sant Joan de Mataplana. The archaeological excavations started in 1986 under the direction of Manuel Riu have uncovered the fortified complex.
