The international Duero is a stretch of 112 km of the Duero River whose ownership is shared by Spain and Portugal, as it is located over a part of the border between both countries.
The border between Spain and Portugal has a longitudinal configuration of more than 1,200 km. Along its route, it crosses the hydrographic basins of the Miño, Limia, Duero, Tagus, and Guadiana, with numerous cases where rivers have been used to mark the border between the two countries. This is the case of the Miño in Pontevedra, the Manzanas and the Duero in Zamora, or the Guadiana in various sections of Badajoz and Huelva. The sum of these international river stretches adds up to about 400 linear km of border between Spain and Portugal, of which one quarter corresponds to the international Duero.
