It originates in the ports of Tortosa-Beceite between the municipalities of Beceite and Arnes in a place where several ravines converge. It passes through the municipalities of Beceite, Arnes, Cretas, Horta de San Juan, Lledó, Arens de Lledó, Caseras, Calaceite, Batea, Maella, Fabara, and Nonaspe.
It has a torrential regime and already in the section near Arnes shows significant erosion. From Arens de Lledó, it takes a zigzag path, creating several border zones between Aragón and Catalonia, until its mouth in the Matarraña in the village of Nonaspe.
