Naît dans les ports de Tortosa-Beceite entre les termes municipaux de Beceite et Arnes, à un endroit où confluent plusieurs ravins. Il passe par les termes de Beceite, Arnes, Cretas, Horta de San Juan, Lledó, Arens de Lledó, Caseras, Calaceite, Batea, Maella, Fabara et Nonaspe.
Il a un régime torrentiel et déjà dans le tronçon près d'Arnes, il montre beaucoup d'érosion. Depuis Arens de Lledó, il prend un tracé en zigzag, formant plusieurs zones de frontière entre l'Aragon et la Catalogne, jusqu'à son embouchure dans le Matarraña au village de Nonaspe.
