The Girona River, or Bolata, originates in the Valencian town of Vall d'Alcalà, at the westernmost end of the Marina Alta. After crossing the area of Vall d'Ebo, it narrows, forming the spectacular site known as the Barranco de l'Infern, at the exit of which there is the Isbert dam, mainly located in the municipality of Vall de Laguar. From that point, it flows through an alluvial plain that makes up the northern half of the Marquesat de Dénia, where it receives the waters of the Barranco de la Bolata, its main tributary, and crosses the territories of Orba and the various towns of the so-called Rectoria de la Marina Alta, including Beniarbeig, Ondara, el Verger, and els Poblets. Finally, it flows into the Mediterranean; specifically at the Punta de l'Almadrava, where it serves as a natural border between the area of that municipality and Dénia.
