The Guadalest River is a river in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula that runs through the province of Alicante. It crosses the Guadalest valley and is the main tributary of the Algar River.
The Guadalest River rises in the port of Confrides, between the Sierra de Aitana and the Sierra de la Serrella and during its journey receives water from numerous ravines. Like most Mediterranean rivers, the Guadalest River is characterised by its interannual irregularity, i.e. its flow is conditioned by abundant rainfall in autumn and spring and a dry summer. This irregularity led to the construction of the Guadalest reservoir, to regulate its flow in order to improve and expand the irrigated areas.
