The Petrer-Elda conurbation is located inland in the province of Alicante. Comprising the cities of Petrer and Elda, it forms, with 88,164 inhabitants, the 6th population center of the Valencian Community and the 47th in Spain.
Until 1975, a rough dividing line could still be established, in the neighborhood aptly named the Frontier; from that date on, the physical union of the two municipalities was already complete, and a community of services had to be created, currently called the Intermunicipal Community of the Vinalopó Valley.
