The hill of Somorrostro or hill of San Pedro is a small promontory located in the city of Santander, in Cantabria, noted for the important role it played in the history of the city.
On this hill, bordered to the south by the bay of Santander, and to the north by the ancient estuary of Becedo, the city of Santander was born. This elevated area was chosen for the construction of the medieval castle, and the abbey of the Holy Bodies, a monastery that would later become the Cathedral of Santander. The city of Santander developed around these two monuments, and therefore, to the north of the hill of Somorrostro.
