The Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo Library and House-Museum is located in the city of Santander, in Cantabria. The library of around 42,000 volumes belonged to the famous writer during his lifetime, passing to the Santander City Council at his death by testamentary decision.
Its bibliographic collection is made up of 1,032 manuscripts, papers and correspondence of 17 legacies of different authors, and 42,500 printed titles of which 22 are incunabula, 1,124 from the sixteenth century and 1,225 from the seventeenth century. The eighteenth century is represented by 2,839 titles and the nineteenth and twentieth by 35,260. To all this should be added 870 titles of periodicals. The year 1912, with the death of Menéndez Pelayo, closed the fund.
