The sanctuary of the Virgin of Linarejos, or Our Lady of Linarejos, also called the Hermitage, is a Marian sanctuary located at the end of the promenade of the same name in the city of Linares.
According to an ancient romance included in a manuscript titled "The Feast" and also known as the book of D. Martín de Zambrana and Chacón, on August 5, 1227, the year of the reconquest of Linares by Fernando III the Saint, the shepherd Juan Jiménez had a vision of the Virgin of Linarejos in Linares. He was coming from the fields of Albentosa, near Linares, overwhelmed by the relentless heat. He rested in the shade of a mastic tree where he visualized the Marian apparition. Another version of the story identifies a hermit as the protagonist of the epiphany.
