The roundabout of the Pyramids is the eastern access to the Toledo Bridge in Madrid, one of the historic bridges that spans the Manzanares River. Initially called Glorieta del Puente de Toledo, it received its name from two obelisks built by Francisco Javier de Marietegui and erected in the square in 1831[1][2]. [3] Currently, Toledo Street, Paseo de Yeserías, Paseo Imperial, Paseo de las Acacias and Calle de Alejandro Dumas converge at the roundabout, which initially runs parallel to the Manzanares River to the north, and from which the Paseo de los Melancólicos leaves shortly after, on the left. The Toledo Bridge connects the roundabout with that of the Marqués de Vadillo, on the other side of the Manzanares.
The roundabout did not receive an official name until 1903, when it was included in the official street map, with the denomination "Glorieta del Puente de Toledo". [4] However, on December 28, 1944, by municipal agreement its name became the current one. [5] Due to the monoliths erected in the roundabout in 1831.
