The Vía Verde de Los Ojos Negros (literally: the Green Way of the Black Eyes) is a cycle path of about 200 km on an old railway bed. The railway was built in 1903 by the owner at the Ojos Negros mines, next to the existing railway, which he found too expensive. So now it's a bike
Path in something between asphalt and gravel. Now it is a free path for cyclists, horse riders and walkers.
Just before Sarrion we come across that other Spain. A shepherd arrives with his sheep. The shepherd, with hat and walking stick in the lead. Behind them a hundred sheep. Here and there one rears its head. Halfway through the flock, the wool of the sheep fades and a cloud of dust fades. An image that will be etched in my mind forever. A deceptive image of peace and freedom, of a world lost to us.
