THE ORANGES WRECK

The Coenda Longa Beach is a pebbly beach or, as it is called here, a "coido de bolos", very typical of Camariñas' granite landscape. In 1965, the Moroccan merchant Banora, also known as the '"Oranges ship" sunk against this rocky landscape. 1,600 tons of the citrus fruit ended up on this side of the coast.
Hired by the Moroccan Fruit Company Sofruma, the Banora was heading from Casablanca to Hamburg. From Finisterre onwards it had a leak which had flooded the engine room. It had requested towing services, but by the time they arrived, all they could do was certify the sinking. Thanks to the fast action of the sailors of Muxía, the 36 crew members were rescued from perishing in that place.
From here you can continue your visit towards the Vilán lighthouse, starting point of many hiking routes through the Natura Network.
