The Hospital d'Olot i Comarcal de la Garrotxa, also known as the Hospital d'Olot because it is located in this city, is a private entity providing public services in the field of the integral health system of public use of Catalonia.
The origin of the institution dates back to the 1310s when the first references of the Hospital Sant Jaume appear, dedicated to this saint like many other pilgrim hospitals of medieval times. It was located in the old town, in the current Marià Vayreda library. Thanks to the donations and legacies of the citizens, in addition to the own income, it replaced over the centuries until changing its location moving to the Renaissance building on Sant Rafel street in the sixteenth century. In the mid-nineteenth century, Olot City Council took over the management of the Hospital and it was in 1980 when the Generalitat took advantage of the Network of Local Hospitals, such as Sant Jaume, to structure the Catalan health system.
