Little Train Route

The Ruta del Tren Petit is a greenway that connects Palamós and Palafrugell, with a length of 6 km. Its route follows part of the old track of the so-called little train that connected Palamós with Girona passing through La Bisbal d'Empordà. The current greenway crosses the municipalities of Palamós, Mont-ras, and Palafrugell, with branches to Vall-llobrega and the beaches of Castell and la Fosca. The new route was inaugurated on March 29, 2009. In 2016, a bike lane was completed in Palamós that connects the start of the Route with Sant Antoni de Calonge.
The tram train made its first trip on March 23, 1887. It was driven by a Belgian steam locomotive that traveled a few kilometers alongside the road. Today, the road buries part of what was once the railway; however, the section conditioned as a greenway allows for views of the landscapes of Empordanet, as described by the writer Josep Pla, and crosses the plain of l’Aubi, of great agricultural value and surrounded by the reliefs of the Gavarres massif and the mountains of Begur.
