Predominantly heading west-east, it runs through the valley that opens up between the southern slope of the Serra de Querol, the Port del Comte massif and the northern slope of the Serra de la Creu del Codó in the first half of its route and that of the Serrat de la Creueta in the second half.
It starts in Coll de Jou at 1,459 meters above sea level and flows into the Llosa del Cavall reservoir at 800 meters above sea level, after passing through Vilamantells and leaving the town of Sant Llorenç de Morunys on its left.
