The Chorreras del Cabriel natural monument is a Spanish natural area located in the province of Cuenca, around the aforementioned river.
The Chorreras of the Cabriel River is a natural enclave situated in the province of Cuenca, between the municipalities of Enguídanos and Víllora, notable for its tufa formations. The Chorreras are found in the channel of the Cabriel River, in a stretch of 2.5 km between the Víllora dam and the confluence with the Guadazaón River. This stretch contains a set of waterfalls, cascades, lateral caves, pools, and gorges, and includes a Quaternary tufa building over a bed of Jurassic limestone of great geological interest. Due to the magnitude of its carbonate deposits, it is considered the fourth most important Quaternary fluvio-lacustrine system on the Iberian Peninsula. Among the three morphosedimentary units present in the area, a stepped surface of 1000 m stands out with partially functional stromatolites, which are unique in the Iberian Peninsula for the variety and abundance of imprints of plant remains, the thickness of laminations, and the diverse typology of banding.[1]
