Catedral de la Santa Cruz - Cadiz

The Catedral de la Santa Cruz de Cádiz is an architectural masterpiece that took more than a century to build .

To avoid confusion with the older nearby Parroquia de Santa Cruz , this church is also known as the Catedral Nueva .

The facade of the cathedral is an impressive color palette with dark brown at the bottom and cream at the top and the yellow dome.

Inside you can see the wood carvings of the choir and the impressive paintings in the dome (angels surrounded by paintings of The Last Supper, the Crucifixion, ...). The crypt with the remains of the composer Manuel de Falla and the poet José María Pemán, both from Cádiz, can also be visited.

A steep staircase takes you to the top of the bell tower , the Torre de Poniente. From here you have a wide view over Cádiz, the harbor and the sea.
