Inaugurated in 1926 , the Balnerario de La Palma de Cádiz replaced the traditional Baños del Real, a wooden installation that had already existed at the beginning of the 19th century.
It is a reinforced concrete structure with two well differentiated cores; the access pavilion , built on the wall, and the spa itself , built on pillars on Caleta Beach itself. It consists of a central area flanked by towers with spherical domes, from which two curved wings depart, at the ends of which open pavilions covered by domes.
The building currently houses the buildings of the Center for Underwater Archeology of Andalusia. The field of activity focuses on the research of the underwater archaeological heritage existing in the Andalusian territory, through documentation, intervention, conservation and restoration.
