Iglesia del Espiritu Santo - Ronda

The Church of the Holy Spirit is a Christian temple in Ronda, located in one of the old quarters of the city.

The church was erected by the Catholic Monarcas atop the former mosque in the upper quarter and was dedicated to the Sancti Spiritus to commemorate the day the city was taken.

The building shows a high degree of uniformity in its construction. The work was executed in the late 15th and early 16th centuries and corresponds to a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles typical of the period.

The front of the church is occupied by an altarpiece with three shields arched in stone.

The entire construction is of plastered masonry. The exterior of the building has a fortified appearance , which was very common at the time. The facade is quite simple and follows the patterns of the late Gothic style. The door has a semicircular arch that is unevenly framed by an alfiz, the only trace of Mudejar influence in the church. Above the arch is a small niche with a dove, which symbolizes the Holy Spirit .
