This square forms one of the most striking architectural and artistic ensembles in Spain , where three styles converge: Renaissance, Mudejar and Neoclassical.
The Plaza de la Asunción is the center of the institutions:
- Civil: the Cabildo Viejo (Old Town Hall )
- Religious : first a mosque, later the seat of the church of San Dionisio which houses the patron saint of the city.
- House of Justice : the site currently occupied by Palacio de la Condesa de Casares was formerly the seat of Justice and the city prison, since the 15th century.
In the center of the square, the Monumento a la Virgen de la Asunción stands in perfect balance with the harmonious beauty of the complex.
Since the Assumption of the Virgin has been a dogma of faith since 1950 , many cities built monuments to the Assumption after the promulgation of this dogma, such as the one erected in Jerez in 1952.
