The ancient Calvary must have existed before 1593 , for this year there was already a sanctuary on the plateau
It was a place of devotion with a cross or image for pilgrims to pray before entering or leaving the city. The procession that the Nazarenes conducted on Good Friday came here. It is known that there were two primitive crosses and others were placed in the 18th century.
In 1707, the construction of the hermitage of Calvario was completed with the alms of the faithful and the contribution of the Franciscan Third Order.
In the hermitage, the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows is venerated.
On Maundy Thursday a procession of "Jesus in the Column" leaves and on Good Friday there is the ascent of the Calvary of Jesús Nazareno.
