The Castle of Fatetar is located on the top of Monte Fatetar , in the highest part of the city and offers a beautiful view of both the village and the surrounding area.
Visually it is connected with the castle of Matrera ( Villamartin ) and with the castle of Arcos de la Frontera . Messages were forwarded in this way.
Fatetar Castle is said to have been built by Abderrahman III in 914 . Although its origin is unknown, many cultures have crossed this place, such as the Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, Muslims and Christians.
The Fatetar castle has a diamond shape. Today you can still see the keep and the remains of the walls
Next to the castle is the Chapel of the Ermita del Santísimo Cristo de la Antigua.
This chapel of the Holy Christ of Antigua is located next to the western corner of the castle and forms an architectural unit with it.
The whole property is owned by the Catholic Church.
