The so-called Cuevas de la Antigua Fragua (Caves of the Old Forge), in the historic center of Mijas, form a group of three small caves in the rocks, as a result of both nature and the hand of man.
The caves served as a storage place for a forge .
Human use of these natural burrows was very common in the pre-industrial period as they ensured constant temperature and humidity with consequent material benefits.
All three rooms have been adapted for human habitation, especially the largest. The forge house has not been preserved.
