The Plaza de la Corredera is the most famous square in the city of Cordoba and is also called the Roman center of the city.
The name comes from the bullfights that were held in this room
It has the typical rectangular shape that is typical of most Plaza Mayor's in the rest of Spain, however this square is the only one of its kind in Andalusia. In the neighborhood around this 18th century square Plaza de la Corredera you will find different architectural styles such as the Roman and Castillian architectural style.
The two buildings that stand out in the square are the Sánchez Peña Market and the Casas de Doña Ana Jacinto, both built a century before the square.
The cozy square is an ideal place for a drink on the terraces or to eat tapas at one of the restaurants placed in the galleries. In the morning there is the Mercado de la Corredera, a food market selling all types of fresh produce.
During the reconstruction of this square, several remnants from the Roman period were found, such as the main entrance of an amphitheater and horse races . In the 19th century bullfights , burnings during the Inquisition and various festivities were even held on this square.
