The parish church of Iznajar, dedicated to Santiago Apóstol, is located in the highest part of the village , within the walls of the medieval city.
It was planned to build a large church, but it was never completed. It was built in the Renaissance period between 1547 and 1638 .
The exterior of the church has a noble appearance . The tower is just a large stone prism that was never completed. An undecorated brick bell tower was added.
An extensive restoration was carried out between 2005 and 2008, both externally and internally, revealing the original 17th-century frescoes . These can be seen on the sides near the altar.
The choir is unusually high: 1.40 m.
The Baroque-style main altarpiece has fine carvings and was made between 1749 and 1760.
