Description

On the Plaça Muhamad ben Cabeha we find the Sala-Museu Antonio Quintana.

This room, formerly used as an autopsy room, was converted into a museum in 2010 and currently houses works from the Iznájar artist's long career.

Antonio Quintana was born in Iznajar in 1943. At 17 he moved to Madrid, where he attended the Círculo de Bellas Artes and the Real Academia de San Fernando. He then studied in the studio of the Santander painter Antonio Quirós, who was his teacher for many years. In the early 1970s he held several exhibitions in cities such as Cordoba, Madrid, Santander, Oviedo, Caracas and Athens.

In 1973 he came second in the Adonais Prize for Poetry for his book El ojo único del unicornio. In 1977 he collaborated with Nobel Prize winner Vicente Alexandre on a portfolio of engravings of the Sevillian author's poems. In 1981 he received the Gules Prize in Valencia for his poem "Tirar el pájaro a la piedra". In 1988 he received a grant from the Ministry of Culture for literary creation for his book Y convertido en lluvia de oro osó posarse en los ojos de los gatos. In 2000 he published Este ojo me llora. Since 2003 he has lived in Los Juncares (Iznájar), where he has created new oil paintings and drawings and exhibited them in numerous exhibitions. In 2006 he published Anatomy of Dreams and wrote his first novel Los Espantos.

Antonio Quintana has always shown interest and concern for the cultural manifestations of the Iznájar people, participating selflessly and contributing to the preservation of the Iznájar traditions. He has been the official chronicler of Iznájar since 2009.
