The church was originally dedicated to Sant Josep . It was rebuilt in the Baroque style by Remigio del Mármol in the 18th century .
It is a work of transition from baroque to neoclassicism and is designed as a single-nave structure with an integrated transept. The decoration is characterized by the combination of neoclassical and baroque elements.
The facade is divided into two parts , the first with Doric columns and the second with Corinthian columns framing a relief of Our Lady of Mount Carmel . In the center of the facade is a tower with a dome on which the prophet Elijah is standing. On either side of the tower are four statues of Old Testament figures.
The main altarpiece is the work of Juan de Dios Santaella. On a pedestal are a bench and a single body with pedestals framing the Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel .
The sacristy was built in front of the church , which today is connected to the central building as a chapel .
