These palaces were the residence of the kings of Granada.
Construction was started by the founder of the dynasty, Alhamar, in the 13th century, although the surviving buildings date mainly from the 14th century.
The walls of these palaces enclose the sophistication and sophistication of the last Hispano-Arab governors of Al Andalus, the Nassarites.
Three palaces make up these premises: El Mexuar , Les Comares, or Palau Yusuf I , and El Palau dels Leóns , or Mohammed V.
The poor materials with which the palaces are decorated emphasize the temporality of the construction in relation to the cosmos and testify to the transience of man .
The courtyards , continuous references to the garden, with elements of Persian and Islamic inspiration, are a foretaste of paradise , a nomadic oasis, a treat for the senses. Water, the element that shapes the palace that connects the garden to the architecture, represents purity; crystal clear water flowing between the marble fountains; Water of life that gives richness and freshness to the garden, aesthetic beauty, generosity of the sultan... a whole world of symbols and charms.
