Francisco Antonio Enrique Jiménez Fernández "El Mellizo" was born in Cádiz in 1848 and died in 1906. This statue was inaugurated in 2006 on the centenary of his death.
This gypsy singer got the nickname from his father, a butcher who used to work in the slaughterhouse in Cadiz. He was an odd character who, despite being a famous artist, rarely left his hometown. He is said to have been a great believer where he may have heard Gregorian chants which inspired him to create his "Malagueña" .
He was a famous flamenco singer . Of all the singers , he had the greatest influence on the different styles of flamenco in Cadiz. Along with Silverio Franconetti and Antonio Chacón, he is considered one of the leading personalities in the development of flamenco. He was the author of one of the most important Malaga styles . He is said to have created or developed several types of soleares, alegrías and tangos. According to oral tradition, he was the creator of the Tientos.
