The Plaça de la Llibertat de Cádiz occupies the site of the garden of the Convent des Calzos , which was dissolved in the 1830s.
Torcuato Benjumeda designed a neoclassical quadrangle as a Doric arcaded square.
In 1928 the large central space was occupied by two market pavilions designed by Juan Talavera.
Inside is the Central Market of Cadiz.
