This church was part of the ancient Capuchin Convent , founded in 1639 in the old Santa Catalina chapel.
Two years later he moved to this place where, until its complete destruction a few decades ago, the entire monastic ensemble for which Murillo had painted an important series of paintings, now in the Cadiz Museum, was preserved. In fact, the death of the Sevillian painter is attributed to the consequences of injuries caused by a fall of scaffolding while the work was being carried out.
The Chapel of the Venerable Third Order was built in the 18th century, with a rectangular plan and a single nave, covered with a barrel vault and adorned with partially preserved frescoes telling the life of Saint Francis .
Elements of a Rococo altarpiece have been reused in the main altarpiece, and among the statues is an 18th-century wooden statue of Saint Joseph from the Genoese school.
