The statue of Fernando Quiñones is the work of Luis Quintero , who created a realistic bronze monument to the taste of the writer's family from Chiclana, adopted son from Cádiz.
He shows us Quiñones barefoot with a guayabera shirt, in the pocket of which he keeps his glasses . With his hands behind his back, Quiñones' pose and contemplative gaze reflect the awe he always felt for La Caleta beach and the town that now houses his monument.
The writer and journalist Fernando Quiñones was born in Chiclana in 1930. In December 1948 he began his literary adventure by founding the magazine "El Parnaso" . He then began writing for the press, an activity he never gave up. In Madrid he began working for Reader's Digest in 1953. In 1957 he published his first volume of poetry "Ascanio o Libro de las flores y Cercanía de la gracia". , which earned him second prize in the Adonais Prize for poetry.
In 1971, Fernando decided to devote himself fully to literature and moved between Madrid and his beloved Cádiz . In 1973 he went to Latin America as a flamenco ambassador . In 1987 he traveled to Morocco and Yemen. In Cuba, they give him the Casa de las Américas Award. Twice finalist for the Planet Award, with "Las mil noches de Hortensia Romero" (1979) and "La canción del Pirata" (1983).
Dedicated to Cádiz and wanting to make his city great, he founded Alcances, a festival that he has directed for ten years since 1968.
