This church was completed in 1762 .
In addition to the artistic importance that the church enjoys, its history reminds us of the celebration of the solemn Te Deum of March 19, 1812, in thanksgiving for the promulgation of the Constitution of Cadiz, promulgated that same afternoon.
The church has a Latin cross plan with three naves. The nave is divided into five transepts by Tuscan columns with cruciform floors. The main facade, one of the most characteristic of the 17th-century Cádiz Baroque, is divided into three sections, the most important of which occupies the main facade, made of marble and divided into two parts supported by Ionic columns . The lateral parts are connected by a group of Tuscan pilasters on the wall and are crowned by ornate bell towers.
The construction of the main altar began in 1766 and was finished in 1785. It is divided into three bands by Corinthian columns decorated with rocailles. The central volume houses a tent composed of two bodies: the head has the image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel , a work by Jacinto Pimentel in 1638, while the second has an infant Jesus from the mountain tradition.
Also of note in the church is the pulpit , a piece of Genoese marble made towards the end of the 17th century, decorated with reliefs framed by twisted columns and a rococo ceiling in gilded wood, in addition to the paintings from the 17th century 18th century walls that adorn the church and adorn the entrance arches to the side aisles.
