The Walls of San Carlos de Cádiz is a semi-fortress built in the late 18th century as part of an ambitious plan to renovate the port facilities and buildings in the area.
As early as the mid- 16th century, there was talk of building one of the three bulwarks to defend the port , the so-called Sant Felip bulwark , which came into use in 1560.
With the increase in sea traffic, a renovation of the area began in 1765, which finally gave the whole its current appearance.
Nearby is the Obelisk of the Immaculate Conception , a Genoese work from the late 17th century.
