Plaça del Mamelón is considered one of the most elegant squares in the city.
It is a pleasant and relaxing environment that serves as a link between the historical and commercial center of the city and one of the main arteries of the city's expansion and growth in the 20th century, the Avinguda Alcalde Álvaro Domecq.
The square is the result of the demolition of the Palau de Salobral.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the square was known as Alameda de Sevilla , but the population always knew it as Plaça del Mamelón, since the Mamelón is a low hill in the shape of a nipple , according to the RAE.
Historically, during the Arab era, there was a hilltop view of Jerez and after the reconquest it was leveled and added to the Llano de San Sebastián, although the popular name survived.
In 1893, after the changes that took place in Albereda Cristina and Plaça d'Aladro, the square was urbanized and embellished, becoming a beautiful promenade.
In 1952 the monument to Sant Joan Baptista de la Salle was added.
