The Capella de l'Antigua is an open baroque chapel . It is notable for being the only open chapel-type chapel left in the city .
After Mendizabal was dismantled, it was closed to the cult. It was restored in 2010 but remains closed.
In the 18th century , most of the old wall's doors and shutters were associated with religious devotions to prevent pagan customs from penetrating the city. As a result of this custom , a small chapel was dedicated to Our Lady of Antigua at the Porta del Arroyo .
It was built in 1719 with the permission of the city administration. In 1798 a window was opened in the chapel. The chapel is rectangular and follows the plan of the wall. The upper cornice, characteristic of the baroque architecture of Jerez, stands out. The doors have small bars so there was no need to go inside.
