The old town hall of Jerez was built in 1575 during the reign of Felipe II .
It has three facades, the main facade of which faces the Plaza de l'Asunción . It also consists of a main building and another annexe in the form of a porticoed gallery with three Italianate style semicircular arches. Both buildings are decorated with Renaissance motifs .
It is considered one of the best examples of Renaissance architecture in Andalusia.
From 1873 until recently, the building housed the municipal library , whose bibliographic wealth has been cataloged in more than 40,000 volumes; and also the Archaeological Museum , which houses, among other things, the famous Guadalete helmet from the 7th century BC. BC and female idols from the Bronze Age were exhibited.
It currently houses the facilities of the Municipality of Jerez .
