The statue was created by Antonio Luis Navarro Jurado and inaugurated in 2006.
His real name is Luis Prieto Romana , but most people knew him as Luis Navas . He was born in 1928 , in the Alcázar Viejo neighborhood, also known as the San Basilio neighborhood. There is the statue dedicated to him by the municipality of Cordoba.
He was very active in the parties organized by all the peñas and in many of them he participated with the group "Los de Sierra Morena". He gained fame for his poetry readings and for accompanying stars such as Marifé de Triana, Lola Flores and Antonio Molina.
He was an essential figure in the so-called "Operación Ladrillo" (Operation Brick) carried out in 1964. The purpose of this operation was to raise money by organizing street parties and festivals. The money would be used to build a kindergarten in the Naranjo district .
Throughout his life he received several accolades, all for his extensive participation in shelters, hospitals, homes and charitable events with the main purpose of helping and bringing joy to those who needed it most. He died in 2002 and his remains rest in the cemetery of San Rafael.
