Access to the popular district of San Basilio , famous for the beauty of its gardens , is through the Puerta de Sevilla , so called since the Middle Ages because it was the exit most directly connected to this province .
The city gate is small and consists of a single opening with lintels. The most striking features of the complex are the two small double arches, attached perpendicularly to the wall that runs next to the aforementioned gate on one side and to a square tower on the other . Recent studies date this construction to the Islamic period, with a military function or an aqueduct function.
In front of the arches is the monument erected in the 20th century to Ibn Hazam, the work of master sculptor Ruiz Olmos. The walk from the Puerta Sevilla to the river, along the wall, has recently been illuminated as part of the Municipality's Tourism Plan. This wall is a 14th century Christian work, erected to defend the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos (Fortress of the Christian Monarchs).
