Capilla Mudéjar de San Bartolome - Cordoba

The chapel of San Bartolomé is the great unknown among the monuments of Córdoba , and at the same time undoubtedly one of the most attractive and, in the not too distant future, one of the most visited in the city.

It is integrated into the current Faculty of Philosophy and Letters , a building that was Cardinal Salazar's hospital from the 18th to the 20th century, and is accessed through the exterior courtyard, which overlooks Calle Averroes, or through the interior of the Faculty .

When in 1391 it was decided to repopulate the adjacent Alcázar Viejo district and the Jewish quarter was consequently abandoned, the need arose to found a new settlement , which was given the name San Bartolomé and appeared under this name as early as 1410. As a logical consequence, a new sacred building became necessary, the construction of which is dated between 1399 and 1410.

The Mudejar chapel of San Bartolomé was built at the end of the 14th or the beginning of the 15th century.
This small enclosure continued to serve as a parish church until the early 17th century. The complex, which has undergone several additions over its long history, is an ancient example of Gothic-Mudejar aesthetics . It occupies an almost square surface, divided into two sectors, one of which corresponds to the chapel itself and the other to the atrium.
