The monastery's church has one nave with side altars; among the possessions is the Infant Jesus found in the river on December 11, 1701 and donated to the community of nuns on January 8, 1702 .
The monastery originated from the will of canon Antón Ruiz de Morales when he decided in 1503 to bequeath his house for the foundation of a beaterio to be led by his cousin Juana González de Morales.
However, to create a monastery instead of a beaterio, he asked Pope Julius II for a bull to convert the house into a monastery. This bull was granted on July 11, 1509 and in it the prior of the monastery of San Jerónimo de Valparaíso and the dean of the cathedral, Fernando del Pozo, together with two canons of the cathedral, Pedro Ponce de León and Martín Alonso de Piquín, received, the order to establish the monastery.
On April 2, 1510, the convent was founded with Juana González de Morales as abbess, who resigned in favor of the nun of the convent of Las Dueñas, Guiomar de Albornoz.
