Due to the unevenness of the Plaza de Séneca, it is configured as a section with a roadway, on a slope, with traffic only for residents, and a pedestrian area on a terrace, where there is a fountain and the Roman sculpture . The ground in this part is paved with typical Cordovan Chinese cobblestones.
It was known as the Correo Viejo (Old Post Office) for much of the 20th century. It was restored by José Rebollo in 1965 and has a cobbled pavement.
Until the mid-19th century, it was known as Plaza del Conde de Zamora de Riofrío , because of the imposing mansion that stood there, which belonged to the Medina y Corella family. Later it was named Plaza de Séneca (1852) because oral tradition places the birthplace of the Cordovan writer in this area. Popularly it is called Plaza del Descabezado by many Cordobesen because of the presence of a Roman statue with a missing head.
