Next to the Plaza de las Tendillas, the square is formed by the various buildings that are there.
Characteristic of this square is the Triumph of San Rafael .
As in other cities of Cordoba , the Church of Santo Domingo de Silos had a cemetery next to the church itself. The disappearance of this cemetery, located at the beginning of Calle del Reloj, and the arrival of the Society of Jesus in the middle of the 16th century, when the construction of the College of Santa Catalina started in 1554, led to the creation of the Plaza de la Compañía.
It is worth mentioning that the Revolution of 1868 began on September 20 in this square, which gave it the name of Plaza del 20 de Septiembre during the Revolutionary Sexenio.
The square has kept several names throughout its history, mainly due to the political events in the country. It was called Plaza del 20 de Septiembre (1868 - 1875), Plaza de Sagasta or Plaza de Queipo de Llano (1940 - 1985).
