Ferdinand III the Saint, after conquering the city, founded two settlements under the patronage of San Nicolás, one in the Villa and the other in the Ajerquía . Unfortunately, the latter has not been preserved.
From 1357 there is a document in which the existence of the church is explicitly confirmed.
By the middle of the 14th century, the chevet of the church of San Nicolás de la Villa was completed, and in 1555 the baptistery was completed. Between 1771 and 1773, a crypt was built under the church, which today serves as the church's storage space. Curiously enough, in the seventies of the twentieth century, Brother Ricardo de Córdoba found in it a statue of the Virgin , a completely forgotten candelabra statue, which was restored and blessed under the title María Santísima de Gracia y Amparo , and which today is the co-image of the Hermandad de la Sentencia, walking through the streets of Córdoba on the evening of Easter Monday.
The false Baroque groin vaults and the current floor covering, as well as the marble plinth and the steps of the main altar, also date from the 18th century .
