The Plaza de Capuchinos was so named at the beginning of the 17th century , when the original convent of Franciscan friars was founded.
Rectangular in shape, practically enclosed, it is completely dominated by the white of the whitewash impregnated in the smooth walls. The famous architect Rafael de la Hoz once said of the austerity and elegance: "Never before in architecture has so much been done with so little".
In the Plaza de Capuchinos is the famous Cristo de los Faroles , the work of the stonemason Juan Navarro , whose real title is "Cristo de los Desagravios y Misericordias", as a tombstone in one of the walls of the monastery states: " All the faithful who devoutly pray a profession of faith before this holy image of the ssmo. Christo de los Desagravios y Misericordias, are granted three hundred and sixty days indulgence by various prelates. Year 1794".
This majestic crucifix, sculpted in stone, is illuminated at night by eight elegant lanterns , which lend a great mystique to the place.
