Convento del Colodro Esclavas del Santísimo Sacramento - Cordoba

The Convento Mayor de Santa Marina, also called Convento del Colodro because it is right next to the Puerta del Colodro , is located at number 22 of Calle Mayor de Santa Marina.

This monastery was built on the site of a 16th century hermitage , rebuilt in the 18th century and renovated in 1959 by the architect Carlos Sáenz de Santamaría. The facade has two floors with vertical openings and no decoration whatsoever. The facade can be considered neoclassical .

The original chapel was built in the 16th century to honor San Acisclo and Santa Victoria, patron saints of the city , who are said to have been raised in a house on this site by a woman named Minciana. The chapel has a single nave with a vaulted ceiling and a flat choir, covered with an elliptical vault supported by pendentives, decorated with paintings of the martyrs of Cordovan : San Zoilo, San Marcial, San Januario and San Fausto. On the altar are paintings depicting Saint Acisclo and Saint Victoria.

A particularly interesting element is the iconography of a Virgin commissioned in 1959, who bears on her breast the Sacred Form from which rays emanate.
The current monastery is inhabited by the Handmaidens of the Blessed Sacrament and the Immaculate Conception.
