The Ermita del Socorro is located on the square of the same name.
The facade of the Ermita del Socorro has an elegant and simple line. The front facade, a semi-circular doorway with a raised keystone, is flanked by double pilasters. Above it is a carved stone image of the "Virgen del Socorro" in a revered niche, under which is kept the inscription: "Se acavo esta obra a Onrra i gloria de Dios Nuestro Señor Jesuxpto i de la siempre Virgen Sta Maria, Su bendita Madre. .." (This work was completed in honor and glory of God Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Eternal Virgin Mary, His Blessed Mother...).
In the 15th century, the Ermita del Socorro was a hospital, then known by the name of the Holy Trinity and Our Lady of the Angels, whose facade, oddly enough, faced the Plaza de la Corredera, in contrast until now. After the plague epidemic that hit the city in the mid- 17th century , it was renamed Hospital de la Corredera de Nuestra Señora del Socorro . When the Corregidor Francisco Ronquillo Briceño commissioned the reconstruction of the Plaza de la Corredera in 1685, he converted the building into the hermitage it is today.
Above the main altar is the Virgen del Socorro, a sculpture by an unknown artist and dated to the middle of the 17th century. It is undoubtedly one of the most traditional "hermandades de gloria" (brotherhoods of glory) in procession in our city.
Finally, two baroque altars stand out , the altar of San Rafael, surmounted by a statue of the archangel who guards the city, the work of Alonso Gómez de Sandoval, and the altar of San José, the work of Juan Morillo, who was a project by Teodosio Sanchez de Rueda completed.
