The famous statue, dedicated to the painter Zurbarán, was created in 1929 by Aurelio Cabrera Gallardo. It was originally located in the Parque de María Luisa , but was moved to its current location in 1950. It is one of the most emblematic monuments of the city.
On the pedestal are four bas-reliefs with the coat of arms of Fuente de Cantos, where the sculptor was born, the Torre del Oro, Santa Casilda (a painting by Zurbarán) and the Macarena Arch.
